Pie can be quite the cuddly thing. Her fur is so soft, she feels like a clipped chinchilla and more than anything, she likes to snuggle. She likes to snuggle so much that at 3AM every night this past week she has started whining and groaning and begging to be let into bed which results in her sleeping on her own in the laundry room (we refuse to indulge her small dog syndrome and will only give her snuggle invitations when she is being very good and very quiet…she’s much less annoying that way). Don’t feel sorry for her. She’s a spoiled little weenie-bebe.
This week while I was up in the hills for a ramble I found a heap of deer bones. Farley and Penelope were sniffing and licking the pile of junk and Farley even picked up a length of vertebrae to carry around in his mouth for a while. I picked up a femur and carried it home for the dogs to chew on in the yard.
Yesterday the femur made its way inside and Penelope unleashed her inner barbarian.
The bone is larger than she.
It’s quite hysterical to see her drag it around. She tried to pull it under the couch yesterday to keep it away from Farley but it wouldn’t fit.
She’s as wolfish as Charlie when it comes to her bone chewing instincts. All her daintiness goes straight out the window when she gets to work on the femur. I wish you could see her in action!
[For those of you who find ME rather barbaric
for dragging part of a deer carcass down from
the hills for my dogs to gnaw on, I cannot
apologize for my actions, because I think it’s
fairly normal and downright practical. Doesn’t everyone
drag dead stuff around for their pets to gnaw on???
A deer femur is bound to be better for a
dog than that rawhide junk.
We’ll ask Jordan, one of the best vets I know.
JORDAN…WHAT DO YOU THINK?!!!]

Lastly,
I caved last night and rewarded myself for being such a sassafrass with this Mothra Brooch from
shavingkitsupplies on Etsy. I’ve had this baby in my Etsy favorites for what seems like
months and while I was torn between this brooch and the luna moth brooch
the grey mothra won out in the end.
Have I told you about my brooch collection?
It’s becoming quite grand.
Despite it’s grandness, and the regularity with which I wear everything in my collection, RW still says, “What is that thing you have on? A brooch? Does anybody even wear those things anymore???”
He’s such a sass.
Happy Friday to you all! The tulips and daffodils are popping here.
All my friends are having babies.
The deer are eating the tops off my tulips at night.
I like peanut butter.
Love and flight feathers,
THE PLUME
Love the Pie, and you are so good. I should learn and not let my doodle cat in the bed.
I love her new title, Penelope the Barbarian!
I love brooches too…in fact I was thinking about brooches today. No RW, one cannot have too many. And yes, it does look like a mothy butterfly. You MUST BE THE ENVY OF TOWN IN YOUR BROOCHES.
Happy Friday to you too.

EEEEEEEEHHHEEEEEEHEEE! pie is the cutest. and so FEROCIOUS for sure. as for dragging things down from the hills…s’alright for the most part, although it’s probably a really good place to pick up things like intestinal parasites so you should keep up on the deworming in your guys. (like, definitely more than once a year, preferrably monthly during summer and fall months when they’re more exposed to these things). also, if bones are too dry they can splinter and that can result in nasty foreign bodies lodged in places like the oropharynx or even the esophagus which is a tough place to do surgical removal due to its unfortunate route through the thorax. SO, that being said, feel free to have the poochies gnaw on a femur from time to time, just make sure you take appropriate precautions to minimize the potential risks!
M: Brooches. I’m about to head out to the studio..I may have to whip up a couple of brooches today.
XO
J: This little femur seemed rather…er…fresh…if you know what I mean.
And copy that on the wormer. We just wormed the pooches a couple of weeks ago actually. Farley and Pie are in tip top shape. Thanks for your professional opinion:)
XO
i have been without internet for 2 weeks and have missed reading about you and your adorable dogs! love your recent rings, so chic. and that brooch! beautiful. your hubby can just keep quiet over there! i’m sure all the ones you have are gorgeous!
have a great weekend!
I was just talking about Pie this morning. Her sis sends her a waggy wag of the tail.
Wiener dogs never lack tenacity. Ever.
Beautiful weekend wishes to you… (and the snow is gone!)
Jillian, this blog was peachy. And I really hope I get to meet your doggies some day, because they look like lovely folk. I’m all for bringing dog toys home. That junk you buy at the pet store is rotten for their teeth and your wallet. I got a birdie brooch from Lupin Handmade on etsy, and I take him everywhere I go. I’m so glad brooches are coming back, they’re such a unique piece of jewelry!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts today. Have a great weekend!
oh man little Charlie is drooling here in Ottawa!
He wishes he could have a big deer femur like that all to himself!
Well, for the record, I am NOT having any babies anytime soon… but I DID however, pop a little something in the mail for you…
hehehe…
When I was growing up in B.C., sometimes when we were hiking around on the mountain we lived on, we’d come across a deer skeleton. Once we toted the entire skeleton back home with us.
So dragging a deer femur home seems downright normal to me.
Living here in Central Florida we have lizards, which I call our “Florida Dinosaurs”. A day would not be complete without Houdini running into the house with one hanging out of his mouth. Before he lets go it looks like he’s got a moustache on one side of his face. He’s our little hunter!
