I am a bit envious that you love where you are from… I love where I am – where I chose to make my home. I love all of the inland West from the high desert to the mountains, woods and plains – and I love driving it all.

Your photos and words make me want to see the Great Northern Plains for myself: Land of the Living Skies – indeed!

That first picture, with the antelope. I have the briefest bit of understanding what you meant in talking about the closeness of the West Bench, the feeling of living in the valley. But for me, I would choose that funny bare patch right in the lower center, crouch down among the grasses, sheltered in their scent and breathe in time with the creatures two legged and four.

I'm glad you're home, and I'm grateful that home is filling up your soul.

  12. wow, i'm speechless.

My favorite photo in this post is the one of you and Penelope on the gravel road, with the rippling fields of green on either side of you. THAT says "home" for me! Just the endless sky and the fenceless expanses of land…the feelings conjured by that photo are hard to explain to anyone not familiar with the Canadian Prairies – you just have to experience it!!

    Welcome home, Jillian.

This makes my heart ache for Canada. Just beautiful. Pronghorn are one of my favorite creatures. So are you. Have a wonderful time in your home country.

  17. Oh, so much gorgeous space! πŸ™‚

  18. reconstructing sarah says

is the land drenching your spirit….or, perhaps, is your spirit drenching the land? just gorgeous.

  19. this is gorgeous
    comme toi

  20. The heart yearns for "home." If you and your husband can agree on that I suggest you "go" for it! There is something wrong with people missing their attachment to the land. I should know, we have been separated from my heart home environment for 16 years.

    There's a book you'd like Jillian:

Walking Nature home by Susan Tweit. Numerous kismet events have happened since I've met her. Other than that, even so, you'd love this book. It's about being tied to place.
