I SAT BY THE SEA
I SMELLED THE SALTY WISDOM THERE
I ASKED IT TO FORM THE WORDS
WITH THE SLOW EBB AND FLOW OF TIDE
FOR THE SAKE OF HONESTY
AND BONES LAID BARE
IT FORMED THEM AND SLAPPED THEM AGAINST ROCK;
SPIT THEM UP ONTO THE SAND TO DRY WITH
THE BARNACLES AND UPENDED CRABS
I SAW THEM THERE:
WORDS.
PROTOPLASMIC. SIMPLE. UGLY.
SINGLE CELLED, MULTI-SYLLABIC ORGANISMS OF DESTRUCTION AND SELF FLOGGING.
I SAID TO THE SEA, “I UNDERSTAND.”
IT ROSE UP AND BORE THEM AWAY
OUT TO THE PALE HORIZON
[WHERE THE SKY MINGLES WITH THE WATER AND ALL THINGS
ARE DEPTH
SUN
AND AIR]
Yes, the sea does something to you that's for sure. It is so powerful, so massive, so soul stirring- yet so intensely calming at the same time. I moved back to the PNW after 10 yrs away and am now absolutely and completely infatuated with the water I missed so much (that and the mountain in whose shadow I sleep). I'm so glad you got a chance to spend some time here and cleanse your soul. And now I have to know- wherever did you take those pics? I must go there to see for myself!
Glad you got away to breathe. I'll be getting away this next week. CAAAAN'T WAAAAAIT.
a SCHWACK of time? Is that like a parliament of owls or a charm of hummingbirds?
the sea,
she can bear it.
she's a beast of burden.
like the saint.
Introspective, thoughtful, touching and deep. Nicely said Jillian. Funny how the various elements…water, earth, wind, fire etc…evoke so many feelings in each of us.
Peace and love to you as always
Gorgeous photos. The tree bark (?) one reminds me of your oolite pieces.
Lovely entry… You were so near and we missed meeting. Next time!
PNW is delightful for the ocean lover …glad to know that it is the same since…hmmm….1998 or 1999 or ?….just cannot recall those blissful dates. Thanks for adding words to it.
xoxo
oh how i need to escape to the northern woods…
such beauty is instant rejuvenation of the soul.
p.s. your pictures always remind me how intricate and fragile our earth is. love, love.
toodle-oo!
oh my plume. beautiful.
Jillian,
Where were you in these pictures? I'm from the PNW. Just returned in fact.

Thanks so much for these comments lady birds!
D, this photos were taken at Deception Pass. I'm sure you've been there in the past!
They are lovely ladies, aren't they? 🙂
Beautiful area. My brother in law used to live on Whidbey Island when we lived in Seattle (10 years). Are you going to the Olympic National Park? The Islands there are pretty cool also (I have a friend that lives on Lummi Island). The only downside is the rain. You're lucky it's clear.
You should visit Forks and tell Mr. Plume (I have read all of the Twilight books also, and am a little concerned about what all of the press will do to that town).
Have fun.
Sigh.

It feels so good to come clean , what a wonderful space to be emptied and renewed.
