The Princess and the Pea!

New bed new bed fal la la la la laaaaa!!!

I look miniature!
[My great great grandfather was a Norwegian gnome. I’ve been told I resemble him quite a lot.]
We’ve been in the process of getting our first real bed EVER for a couple of weeks now. Two weekends ago we popped over to Salt Lake City to snaggle this sweet little bed frame from Ikea ($100 — what a deal). We ordered our mattress and box spring from a company that makes such things in Boise, Idaho and they finally arrived yesterday! I was dancing around The Gables like The Madhatter! RW also arrived home from his successful elk hunt yesterday JUST IN TIME to put everything together for the first, truly comfortable sleep we’ve ever had together!
I’M SIMPLY THRILLED TO MY FINGERTIPS.
I’m even thrilleder (not a real word) by the fact that when I’m up in this bed, I feel like I’m living the story of The Princess and the Pea! It is so tall! One LITERALLY has to climb up into it. This morning, RW thought it was hilarious to put a tube of lip balm under my back, over and over again, whilst saying, “There’s a lump in this mattress, is it a pea?”
And now, I will testify, that it really is worth the money to get a fabulous mattress. I slept so well last night. My body feels so FRESH and energized. Wheeeeeee!!! Now I’m off to answer your emails and conversations!
Have yourselves a beautiful day!
Love,
PLUME
PS Last night I finished a handful of jewelry that I cannot wait to show you. One is the ring that rules them all. Oh gosh.
PSS Yes. That’s STILL the mustard yellow, sponge painted bedroom we live in. Don’t worry, I’ve been gleaning paint swatches from the hardware store so we can overhaul the
choma-disposition of this room. All in good time my little cheepers!

I HAVE TRIED YOUR BED. It was a delight. Now when you come here, you can try MY bed. Though you'll need a pole vault pole to get in it!
    XO

  3. I've seen little steps built for such beds. Quaint. But anyone who can jump and climb like you wouldn't need 'em.

Enjoy! Sweet dreams! You'll be amazed at how restorative your sleep becomes.

  4. Just reread your previous post and ALL the comments, and want to say again how moving an event it was.

What you said struck chords in many people, me included. What you reminded us to do is so important: To keep asking that question and to keep answering it. Every answer draws in something new to take delight in or work on or scrutinize or be encouraged by…and so on.

What an extraordinary cyber-community this is. Thank you for founding it!

Congratulations! You look like a girl in the fairyland!!!
I want that bed!!!! I'm needing a new mattress because, mine, makes my back hurt…

Congrats on the bed…I truly know what it means to have a bed as I was sleeping in the most uncomfortable places for the longest longest longest years. Now of course kitty rules the bed domain but still I do sleep in it.

Hmm..I suppose the paint is less interesting in person, here in the pic, it is truly wonderful, with the chair, and the bed, and the endtable, and the lamp…oh yes, and the gnome.

    Happy Thursday!

  7. 1. you are minuscule

    4. that bed looks awesome
    5. i can TOTALLY see TL do that. for hours. i wonder, what was your reply to him?

  8. Oh my LORD Jillian I think we have the same duvet! Ha… I just bought mine about a week ago.

  9. ha ha! I'm glad you kept that giant boxspring. When Thom and I got married, we were away on our honeymoon when our mattress and frame arrived. A frame also from Ikea. When we returned and discovered that we had to launch ourselves into bed because it was so high, we decided to return the boxspring and just rest our mattress on the ikea frame slats. That has worked well. however, that ikea frame banged our shins and knees every time we walked by the foot of our bed. I even have a scar from one. (by the way, starting a story with a scar from the bedroom is a good way to get people's attention!!) so we sold that bad bad bed and got a much more loved and happy black iron one from ikea. sigh. and i love it.

  10. i got an AMAZING mattress last year. my bed is my favorite place in the whole world.

  11. Our basement is yellow sponge-painted panelling! And the former owner even sponged UNDER THE STAIRS and IN THE CLOSET!

    That lady needed a hobby.

Or maybe her hobby WAS sponging?!

  12. Oh NO! Don't go trying to fit everything from your studio on yur bed! I adore my bed and have to force myself out. My doxies try to herd me back all day ha ha! No seriously! I hope you and your mr broke down and gots a queen size mattress. I remember reading a great entry sometime ago about the joys of a'snuggling in a single <3

HOW have you managed to sleep in that room under those walls?

I've seen that lampshade somewhere before…

  16. WOW! I really need a bed like that. I literally squeeeled when I saw it. On closer inspection you have my exact bedding! Admitedly it makes mine look very sad on my university box with pokey springs. I'll be showing the other half this one, I think he'd like it too and one day we'll have a little house and a big old bed. Not quite as cute when we're both about 6ft.
quality sleep cures all things I say!

Sweet bed~! Ours is high too, it took a while to get used to. Hubby is a 55 and I'm a 45, (sleepnumber)
    (not our ages…doh…but close)
you could get a miniature bouncy thiing…whassitcalled, oh…trampoline, those teeny ones, and you could run, jump and boing onto the bed!

EEK! Thanks for loving the skyscraper bed, hating my wall color, loving my wall color, loving my bedding, owning my same bedding, sharing your tales of bed woe and warfare (in the case of Kate the Great) and for sharing your concerns on how to make it easier for Penelope Pie to get into bed with me. Much appreciated!!! And very good balm for my soul:)

As for that duvet: my only complaint is the crummy thread count….I'm a thread count snob.

As for that lampshade: Why Madam! It's the lampshade I pulled out of a cardboard box whilst up on Capitol Hill in Seattle with you! Doesn't it look darling on my dog lamp?

    Love to you all!!!

Love your new bed!! I agree, it's worth it to spend the money on a nie mattress instead of skimping. Great bed frame too. It looks like the bed frames filling my Grandma's big house, but all of those frames are the 3/4 size.

So if this silversmith thing doesn't work out for ya', you've always got modeling to fall back on! I ♥ this pic!!

    GUFFAW!

PS The hat I'm wearing in this photo is the famous "Gnome Hat" I bought on a bridge a couple of years ago….somewhere in the heart of Budapest with Arizona-M by my side. She's been gifting me with gnome paraphernalia ever since. And I like it.
