This is actually a Weedy Dragon.
It is RW’s favorite.
That’s a hippocampus hugging my hand with it’s little
tail and yes, my heart fluttered so hard, it flew away.
This is a frog fish. It can move 60 miles per second.
I’m geeking out.
Can you tell?
I forgot to mention how we managed to experience these seahorses whilst in Hawaii! We visited the Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm and it was fascinating and glorious and interesting and lovely and magical and RW loved it too because it appealed to his sensible fish biologist self (WHAT? YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT RW WAS A FISH BIOLOGIST? BETTER CHECK BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THIS BLOG TO GET CAUGHT UP ON OUR ZANY HISTORY).
I used to have pet seahorses…the first set was named "Lucy and Ricky"…another 4 pairs cam after that…they were the coolest…I swear, they were the only fish you could have as a pet that had a personality!…they really did…each was so different..and you could take them out of the water and pet 'em ( for a moment or 2!)
your trip looks like it was magical! π
Absolutely Unreal.
When we ride the humpback whales under a waning moon with sea stars in our hair, can we wear ten hippocampus each, like tall chortling rings, nodding and swaying across our knuckles?
I'd like that.
Oh if I wasn't a graphic designer I'd be a marine biologist. I'd love all the mollusks and echinoderms and mammals and cephalopods the most…
It makes my heart swell to see that little guy wrapped around your finger. Happy you got to experience that!
Do I see seahorses in your design future?
Peut-Γͺtre !
Hum, that's a horse of a different color π
absolutely wonderful! one of my brother's has a degree in marine biology…but landed in medical lab/biology and management…but, his first love was indeed marine life.
what a great experience this must have been. i adore seahorses, ALMOST as much as the equine variety.
happy new year to you and your RW.
I love love love seahorses! My grandfather brought me home some fossilized ones from one of his travels through south east asia about 15 years ago, they had been painted by street vendors and I treasure them!
Beautiful pictures Jillian, your honeymoon sounds like it has been story like and worth every minute of the wait!

Fabulous photos – what magical creatures they are! I love that the Dad's take care of the young too. Thanks for sharing!

p.s. i want to be there when you and kelly do that thing she talked about. my stubby fingers may not be able to handle 1 seahorse each, but i'll supply the laughter, you guys supply the graceful phalanges.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful….thanks for sharing and welcome back.. We missed you terribly-So happy you had a magical time because you certainly deserve it, especially with your main man!! hugs, Sally

How surrealistic the aqua fauna is. What a treat to see them up close!
When I was little my grandmother had a huge tank of seahorses. I would watch them for hours on end. Magical, indeed!
Have you guys seen the documentary Sharkwater? You must. It's tragic what is happening to the shark population right now.
Sheesh, Inspiration Station doublΓ©!
So neat. I had marine biologist dreams back when I was younger.
Also, I've just spent the last 10 minutes watching youtube videos of frog fish eating things…
Fantastic pictures, Jillian. How cool that one hugged your fingers.
I'm hoping for a seahorse belt buckle now…with a little purple chalcedony for an eye.
Gorgeous photos! Happy New Year!
Oh! Great shots of so many wondrous Hippocampi!!! I spy at least one gravid Hippocampa among them. I love their heads and eyes and deliberate, delicate grace.
Welcome back to the continent!
(I'm still here–same continent, anyway–for another week.)
D: Feels nice to have you so close — geographically, that is!
I had know idea that you all had such affinities for the seahorse! I'm OBVIOUSLY in very good company, indeed.
XO
Did you take these pics? MY gosh! EEP…(i thought the hippocampus was in the brain, of humans)
I'm reading your blog backwards trying to catch up…cannot wait to see your art in metal!
