The Lowly Gingersnap

The thing is, my dear birdies, the chocolate chip cookie gets a ridiculous amount of attention.
The gingersnap is where it’s at.

I’ve been baking these sweet and tenderlicious babies fairly often in the past month and am prepared to share the ultra secret recipe avec toi this evening.
Follow these directions and then taste the nectar of the baking gods:
1 CUP WHITE SUGAR
3/4 CUP SOFTENED BUTTER
1 EGG
4 TBSP MOLASSES
2 CUPS FLOUR
1 TSP SALT
2 TSP BAKING SODA
1 TSP CINNAMON
1 TSP CLOVES
1 TSP GINGER
Cream together the sugar, butter, egg and molasses until fluffy.
Sift together dry ingredients and add to the creamed mixture.
Roll small balls of dough in sugar and bake on a cookie sheet at 350F for approximately 12 minutes.
***These are the changes I make to this recipe***
I use 3/4 of sugar instead of a full cup.
I use 1/2 cup of butter instead of the full amount recommended.
I free pour my molasses and wind up using FAR more than 4 tablespoons of the stuff.
I love these cookies.
Nay, I adore them.
I’d recommend them with a cup of THIS tea.
Delightful!
OH GOSH. While I’m on the topic of food. I whipped up some pad thai noodles with tofu
over the weekend and it was so scrumptious, you have to try it. THIS is the recipe I used.
Go heavy on the cilantro.
Also, I didn’t use the tamarind paste because I couldn’t find any in the grocery stores of Pocatello. Mmmfffffffft.
I’m headed for California on Thursday and I’ll hunt some drattedly elusive paste stuffs whilst rambling about The Golden State.

In other news, I made some stuff!
It looks like I’ll be doing a shop update on Wednesday morning,
packing and shipping on Wednesday night
and flying to CA on Thursday morning. WHEEE!!!
Ain’t life grand?

This is the tip of the iceberg of what will be available on Wednesday!

Now I’m off to joggy the oggy doggy,
whip up a tasty dinner
and then RW and I have a movie date!
Smooches to you all,
The Plume

  1. Love love gingersnaps. Currently I have been making the lowfat version Emily posted on her blog ages ago. They aren't crunchy, but they're nice and spicy.

My interest peaks when you say you're coming to CA. Dare I ask if you'll be near the Bay Area at any point? I could make you a tiger cake!!!

Thirdly, I hope very much that you'll like the movie. I thought it was fantastic and the music was wonderful. Enjoy your evening!

    1. Yes. These are not crunchy either and if you cut part of the butter they could be considered sort of lowfat…..humph. HEE HEE!

    2. I will be in the bay area. The majestic hills of Oakland actually. And I wish I had time for a tiger cake but it's my very special niece's birthday and I must spoil her rotten with all my love and time and the color pink.

    3. I think I will like it very much. I've been begging RW to watch it with me for months now. I've been listening to Karen O and The Kids for weeeeeeeeks now…..such a lovely soundtrack!

Marina. You're just a total peach.

  3. Good gosh you'll be close enough where I can throw it to you! It's a small worldy. I'll wave to the hills while you're here. 🙂

Thanks you so much for the recipe. I was planning on making my first batch of gingersnaps this week & went down to the local, nursery/hardware type store & bought a pint of molasses from the big barrel they have there. I will definately be trying this recipe.
As usual, your new pieces take my breath away, even though you just gave us little teases. 🙂

I know what I'll be baking tomorrow. Thanks so much for the recipe. And your latest baubles are as fantastic as ever. One of these days I'll snag myself a ring, I'm sure of it.

  7. Next trip to the grocery will most definitely involve picking up molasses!
    Thanks chickadee!

  8. Oh such lovely culinary and jewelinary tidbits of love…funny about your movie date, as I just posted about that very one last week on my blog!:) had a date with a hunky man accompanied, as always by two amazing wee ones…we'll see how you like it dearest.
California!! How exciting, have a deliciously delightful trip! Will stop by the shop Wed.
    Go gently.

Are the days by any chance longer in the Pocatelles? Or are you a super girl?

In my head I made the cookies and they were yummy!

    xx

  10. thanks for the late-night craving, plume!! 😉
hehe, can't wait to try them.

And I'm pouting over those rings…WANT-NEED-NEED stunning gems.

I (well, my circa 1970-something Betty Crocker cookbook :)!) call them Molasses Crinkles and they are my favorite – very similar but I too free pour the molasses…it is VERY nutritional!!!

    All the baubles look beautious!

Oh gingersnaps! They remind me of my mum who used to bake them every Christmas…..
Love, Love, Love, the new pieces… Especially the one with the flower! Simply gorgeous!
    Health and happiness to you,
    Angela

  13. Ooohh, I heart ginger snaps. I'll have to try your version.

I'm sure you'll find the ingredients you need while in CA, but in case you run out, this place will ship Thai ingredients http://importfood.com/sads1701.html
They have a great selection and lots of recipes.

    Have a safe trip!!

  14. The Noisy Plume: says

    Marina: THROW IT!!!!

    Jaune: Movie date was bliss!!!

Willow: DO let me know how they turn out and thanks for loving the new baubles!

Alice: Be sure to free pour the molasses!

    Jaime: My pleasure:)

Kelly: How did you like it? I thought, perhaps, that stretching a 10 page story book into a full length movie was a bit of a push…..though it was enjoyable. Regardless.

MLJ: Well yesterday, I was a bit of a super girl. Though there were somethings I needed to do that I postponed until today……..like computer work. Humph.

Lulu: You're pretty when you pout.

Ann: I'VE MISSED YOU!!! And what are the actual nutritional properties of molasses???

    Angela: Ahhhh…there's nothing like a nostalgic cookie……

Fruition: Well! I never ever think to look for hard-to-find ingredients on the interwebs! Thanks for reminding me that there's a world of help one click away when it comes to the domestic arts!

  15. mmmm, those look good! I can't wait to try out that recipe when I finally get home and am awake long enough to start baking and cooking again, hehe! 🙂

Is that a Glitz or Soul Garden ring that I see in that one pic??? Hmmm…am really feeling the tug to buy some new Plumage bling-bling! Hope I make it for tomorrow's shop update! 😉

Hope you enjoyed your movie date!
    Sending you some good vibes!

gingersnaps are my very favs; chewy and fragrant does it for me with a cup of fresh-brewed tea… hmmm rhyming without trying? OK well, so I really really dig your gingery cooking inclinations, and your silversmithing and your movie-dating…

Alex and I had one a few nights ago and found it hard to choose between the Princess Bride of Labyrinth – I wanted the latter, mostly for David Bowie's tight-pant antics… but we went for the bride! and with all the quoting and jubilant shouting we didn't actually hear much of it at all!

As for films for you and RW I would also heartily recommend anything by my favourite director Hayao Miyazaki… fantastical adventures aplenty!

Thanks for posting the gb snaps and pad thai recipe….I look forward to trying both! I have an excellent gingerbread man cookie recipe that's fabulous if you'd like a copy. I think the most interesting ingredient in it is the ground pepper. I make it every Christmas and it's excellent with coffee or tea!

  18. The Noisy Plume: says

Mmmmmm….spicy gingerbread is my very favorite Christmas cookie and I also bake it every year with a heaping teaspoon of black pepper. 🙂 Great minds MUST think alike!
