The girls are starting to grow feathers! Can you believe how much they have grown since last week? I’ve also noticed that they have formed a strong sisterly bond in the past few days. They do not like to be apart from each other which makes holding them a literal handful. If I take one chick out of the brooder the remaining chick will call and call for her sister and even leap up on top of the food and water jars where she’ll stomp around in great distress. When I return the missing chick to the brooder they snuggle up, as if to say, “Oh sister, I missed you…” It’s great. Their flocking instincts have kicked in!
Dog and chick friendship continues to impress and develop! I will be sure to film the experience for you sometime this week so you can witness, in person, Farley’s boredom with the girls.
I will confess, I think Judith has a cuter butt. Who gets your number one chicken butt vote? Judith (yellow) or Vesper (black)?
Judith. Her overall lighter colouring means shadow and sections of slightly darker fuzz make it look like she has butt cheeks!
i vote judith for the cutie butt. those feathers are great – when babies are starting to grow real people hair and it sticks up all over the place, my mum has always called it 'bad grass', so these guys have some bad grass 😉
lovely pics. i still wanna come visit.

These chicks are eggscellent. Love love love them. I've learned to enjoy chicks before they turn into chickens (at which point I'll tend to eat them). The cuteness they display when young is so much more pronounced compared to their older selves than almost any other creature I can think of (except the Lesser-Spotted Green Buzzard Hornet, which is, as everyone knows, an exception).
Anyway, I love these chickies of yours Jillian, that's all I want to say. And as for cutest chicken butt, why that would be my own.
Judith. She has that sassy tail upturn thing going on. *keees the beak!*
Vesper!
She is adorable, I love that sweet little face! They have gotten so big. So cute!
I love those little chicks. My town also allows a small chicken coop and up to three chickens in a yard, but I've never made the leap. I'm glad that you did so that I can vicariously enjoy their fluffiness.
Vesper is my pick – more so because of that sassy face!
They really are too cute, and you look absolutely overjoyed to have them. What are you going to do when they still want to be on your bench when they're full grown? 🙂
Well, I'll move their water and food dishes up onto my workbench so they have all the comforts in the world and I'll give them a gentle spanking when they accidently squeak out a little pooplet while in my work space.
🙂
John. You DO have a chicken butt accompanied by the sorriest drumsticks I've ever seen. Love you, brotherfriend.
Vesper has the cuter butt in my opinion!!
oh man, there's nothing in the world cuter than a baby chick butt! i can't decide!
Oh hands down Judith…love both feathery bums, some real fuzzy sistah love!
these little dudes are too funny…too bad they grow so fast! I refrain from voting because I dont want one of them to be scarred emotionally!
xx
My vote is Vesper 🙂
I vote for John's chicken butt. Judith's would be a close second though!
Ai carumba.
I have to vote for Vesper's cute booty! I love her coloring and plus the looks on her face are priceless – she seems feisty. But I must say that Judith has a mighty fine profile – her feathers on her little wings are so delicate. Such cuties 🙂
I gosh, I LOVE them!
I vote Judith for butt but Vesper for face…though they BOTH have cute butts and sweet faces!
As for pooplets: Heeheehee, mind they don't come with the Plumage…or do, for a slice of real life down on the farm!
Eggscellent, as John said.
I love them both- your chickies are so adorable and I'm sooooo jealous! I have to say though, I'm lovin that little tuft o' fluff on Judith's rump. That's the cutest darn thing I've seen in a long time! And I'm a little partial now- because of all the names in the world- you went and gave her my mother's name (the same mom who drove an old VW Bus, belted Barracuda with her window down, lived in an underground hippie dome, grew her own veggies, and loved animals and people like a crazy woman, mother). So that one, she's going to be something special! 🙂
Oh I agree with you…Though it is about much more than looks… 😉
They are perfect!!! How can you even stand it?
I love them from afar…

Although both have equally cute butts, I'm going to have to go with Vesper. She's got the cutest little face & I love the color of the eggs that she'll be producing. Does that make me shallow??
Pam
OH my gosh, what magnificent FLUFFY-BUTTS!! I really really can't choose between them. They are both marvelously perfect.
On Kaui'i, I could not get over ALL the flocks of wild chickens! They were everywhere, at the beach, trotting out of shrubs and bushes… crossing the road! Regal roosters, and proud and feisty hens, followed by a half dozen tiny little chicky-poos. It was adorable.
I agree, Judiths butt is super cute (though, Vespers is also cute too, just a tinsy bit less so). LOVE that they are flocking, thats so cute! 🙂
Judith definitely has a bit of junk in her trunk 😉 You are soo smitten with them…adorable!
Vesper, for sure. More character.
I agree…Judith has the cuter chicken butt and Vesper has the cuter chicken cheeks.
i love how much you love these chicks! i'm really impressed you have convinced the other pets not to eat them. i could hardly look at the Farley photos, i was so nervous for the little birds!
Ah, equal in cuteness, those butts!!
xoxoxox,
Allison
Can I just comment on the fact that there are 30 comments on chicken butts?? Just want to point that out. And to express how incredibly happy that fact makes me.
Definitely Judith for butt, Vesper for face. I don't care how scraggly they get in adolesence, keep showing the pictures!!
WELL GOSH!
You're all so opinionated when it comes to chicken butts! Fear not. Not a single chickie had her feelings hurt. Judith knows her butt is her greatest asset and Vesper knows her face is delightful in every way. They both thank you for taking the time to vote last week and are delighted that you love them so — these words are straight from their beaks though I did have to translate and sometimes the heartfeltedness of a statement can be, as we all know, lost in translation.
