Well, I finished a few things today:
I’ll make these rings available tomorrow morning,
over in the Etsy shop.
Farley kept me company in the studio all day. He’s so sweet. Just the other day, RW and I were discussing how attached he is to us. He follows us everywhere we go, even if it means he lays down and sleeps at our feet. When we move, he moves. I love that dog. I have a blog post to share with you tomorrow that is mostly about him and how amazing he is. Anyway, he jumps up on my vintage, green wing back chair I have out in the studio and curls up in the most darling positions you’ve ever seen and he just snoozes while the Goldberg Variations boom in his velvet ears. Technically, as of late, I’ve been hearing a whole lot of the Whip It soundtrack (which every one here should own….go get it now…it’s so great) and he snoozes to it too — even when Dolly Parton starts singing Jolene to us. He is one of my best friends. He really is. He hears it all, shoulders everything I lay down and still loves me, every single day. I should have named him Jesus (Oops. I think that might have been sacrilegious). How lucky am I to have his companionship? So lucky. I can’t believe I’m getting another German Shorthair Pointer in January! I love these dogs so much.
This morning when I woke up, that beautiful morning light of autumn was pouring into the house. I walked around with my camera trying to catch the blue wisps of it before the sun rose higher.
My Andy Goldsworthy book arrived by mail today. I’m going to take it into the bath this evening and relax with it. Do you know of him? Does he move you? He moves me like he’s the strongest thing and I’m a mountain.
Just up and over. There I am . In a new place.
I was going to try to head back out to the studio for an hour or two, to enamel this wall hanging thing I dreamed up last night but I’m feeling ready to turn in for the evening, invite Farley up into bed and read a book until my eyes slide shut.
Sweet dreams to you all,
Plume
xx
Love, love, love him! Wrote several papers on him in school. I am sure you have seen the documentary "Rivers and Tides" – enchanting!
we all need a little Farley in our lives. dogs are such brilliant companions. truly. they have a sense we so often neglect in ourselves – intuition and heart.
There is so much love, loyalty, and sheer adorableness. i always am reminded of this phrase (i think i saw it on Etsy one day):
"Please God, help me to be the person my dog thinks I am."
have sweet dreams w/ Farley… post-enameling!
xx
Lynsey
Lurve the Goldberg Variations. I learned to play one of those inventions years ago. But it is dusty now and would take much work to restore my fingers to that level of agility again.
Perhaps the next hound coming in January can be named Jesus. You could say he is Mexican and never be accused of sacrireligiosity 😉
I can not wait to watch your friendship develop with the newcomer. What a joy!
And here's how our friendship began. And I quote:

Ooh.
That's a GSP isn't it.
They are the cutest little leggiest little things during puppyhood.
Mine has a liver head and rump, otherwise he's white all over with dark ticking.
It takes a special breed of human to be able to handle one of these poochies!
(oh gosh…I want another one)…
Sweet snapshot!

Mrs. Noisy Plume,
I read through your whole blog this afternoon. Ok, I skipped most of the jewlery post to read about your husbands fishing confrence, the VW shinanagans (he is adjusting the valves when it's dead cold right?), and your pointer that I love.
It may be somewhat forward but we may have to introduce the two GSP's, and coerce some babies?
You guys are too fun! Could you post pictures of you casita? I caught a couple of peeks of it through your blog, and it looks very cozy, maybe a round roof?

Mr. Father-of-GSP (The human in the picture),
The Beast (as we like to call the GSP) sired 8 little baby-boo-boos, 3 months ago. This is to say that yes, coercion of babies can be arranged in the future! Robert wants to know the age of your little girl and he is also wondering if you are going to hunt her:) Lastly, he would like to know what guns you are shooting…
The casita, if you are talking about our home house, is a sexy beast of a single wide ( we live at a remote USFW fish hatchery and the abode is government housing). It is cozy, but only because I have painted every wall with 4 coats of my favorite colors and ignored the fact that it's falling down around my ears. On the plus side, we can always tow is someplace new and there are brake lights on the back end of what is the guest room:)
I see that the two of you are out in the desert as well, so you know that life is one frisky little adventure, non???
Thanks for the note Sean,
Jillian (and Robert in spirit)

Jaune: YES. So enchanting!
Lynsey: That we do! He sends you wuffs.
Kelley: I played a LOT of Bach in my teen years…anything by him ( and Chopin AND Dvorak) is my favorite.
The puppy we have coming in January is going to be a little girl:) We currently refer to her as Limber Hearted Lady Love — but we'll officially name her when we go pick her up!
Q: My gosh. That IS how we started. 🙂 Sigh. I miss you. xx
tres chic!
Mmmmm, so much love for Andy Goldsworthy. I've watched Rivers & Tides so much and I never tire <3
Plume ~ Your artistry is astounding! Love your book collection too!
LoVe n' HuGs ~
<3 Andy Goldsworthy.
Also, HARDCORE hearting your jam. Despite my best intentions I could not wait until I had time to bake bread so I bought some delicious biscuits and smothered them in plumminess and made myself a mug of earl grey. Hot damn.
I absolutely loved Whip It. I have to say, thanks to the movie, I went to my first real roller derby! It was great fun. Love the soundtrack too.
oh, tre magnifique!
once again, if i only had the means…
& GEE WHIZ do i have puppy fever (bad!) someday-someday
Thank you so much for the mention of Andy Goldsworthy! I've never heard of him, look forward to learn about him!
Oh, Goldsworthy!….he has been a fave forever!>…
you MUST see "Rivers and TIdes"….what entree into an artists mind!
LOVE Goldsworthy…he marries art and nature like no other.
Dog is my copilot. Yeah, that's a cliche, but it's spot-on. And cat is my pilot! Actually, when it comes to finding the way, we've all three species taken that role at various times.
I am really, really looking forward to the birth and growth of M'Lady.

GSPs are the best! I love reading about Farley 🙂 When we rescued our pup last year, we were under the impression that he was a lab mix, but we quickly realized he is mostly GSP with a touch of lab. Amazing dogs, and they do require a certain breed of human. He has taught me so much. They possess a certain grace, don't they? Stunning athletes, as well. I am sold for life!
Congrats on the new baby girl, can't wait til she arrives!
Looking forward to new readings, enamels and puppy news!
okay. first things first.
i want that last glitz.
i'm always saying things like this, being so grabby and demanding. but what can i say? my heart took a little jump when i saw it, and that little jump means want.
secondly, i do love farley too. he's so present and so unobtrusive at the same time. i especially like when you get him all riled up by clapping your hands, stooping over him, calling him big boy, and making his tiny little dog butt wriggle and dance.
can't wait to meet his amazing wifey…
love to you today feather baby.

what a glorious book selection…i did notice some by Chaim Potok…those are my FAVS. first read those when i was about 17 or 18..and re-read them every few years.
Always a joy and insperation reading your blog
Quinn follows us about, too. From room to room, place to place. It's heart breaking if we have to leave him behind, because he so dearly just wants to be where we are.
i just want to share that i also have wooden beverage crate furniture.. mine are "Canada Dry" (especially fun as an ex-pat now) and my mother let me take them away with instructions that they are "family heirlooms" and i am not to destroy or lose them. 🙂
also much love for Andy Goldsworthy.. my family has been inspired to many beach and yard-art projects in imitation!
i missed the store posting but i adore the flower-box ring and i loved the simple faceted green one from the last batch!
…I had a hunch you'd be Goldsworthy fans:)
There are so many things to respond to in this string of comments…I'm so glad so many of you know the companionships of dogs. They make amazing friends. I am glad to hear that jam is treating everybody so darn well AND I THINK I AM GOING TO START searching for the perfect pair of roller skates on Ebay. I love my wooden crate stands in the living room. I'm constantly collecting them. The ladies at my favorite antique shops hold them for me until I decide whether or not I want them, when they had new sets come in.
Love to you all.

I blew up that picture of your bookshelf, and have been looking at it for several days.
I love standing in front of people's books…how they arrange, what they collect, who they want to be.
And I realized that I haven't seen that part of your life, and I just felt sick about it.
Need to plan a visit in 2011.
