It’s funny how quickly the world can flip out of stillness
and into a whirl.
Let’s get down to business:
1. RW rang me early this morning and when I rolled over and picked up my phone I heard him whispering, “Loo, I just got my cow.”
He was on a ridge looking at the backside of the world famous Tetons and Henry’s Fork of the Snake River. He was also looking at his newly harvested elk down on the valley floor.
I asked him, “And how did she die?”
He answered, “Immediately. She fell where she stood.”
And I replied, “Thank God.”
There’s nothing worse than a report of a poor shot.

He’ll be home tonight, after 12 hours of work in the field, quartering his harvest and hiking three loads of 110lbs of meat up and down the 6 mile long stretch of forest to our truck. That’s man’s work, it is. Just knowing how hard he’s worked this week, to get that elk, makes me want to throw my arms around his neck and hang on tight. That said, I’m quite happy here in our fluffy, warm bed with my toy dog in my arms and Farley snoring on his dog bed.
Somewhere in our conversation early this morning he said, “Did you know that you are the best wife in the world? You really are. Thank you for letting me do this. I’ll be home soon.”
*warm fuzzies*
2. I keep turning around, in this house, to spiders descending on silver threads from the ceilings. I don’t know where they all came from but they’re on the move today. Have I ever told you about the spider parade I witnessed in Sedona, Arizona once?
3. On Friday I am leaving Pocatello and taking a trip to California for ten days of workshop classes with a hand tool company from North Carolina. I’m all about traveling in order to work with and learn from people I respect and admire. This is one such trip. I can’t wait. But I’m already missing home. RW will be manning The Gables in my absence. Maybe he’ll fix the leaky faucet in the bathroom?
I wasn’t going to, but I decided to take my computer with me. This means blogposts from the road (yay) and I’ll continue to answer your emails and convos whilst I’m away instead of trying to finish all of that work before I leave!
This workshop trip comes at the perfect time, even though I’ll be missing home. I’m ready for new tools, new techniques, new skills and a few days with one of my very best friends and creative sisters.

4. I just remembered that I forgot to tell you what I was doing in Portland last month! I was at Art and Soul, with amazing creative people and an umbrella. It was awesome. It was exhausting. It was awesome.
5. I’m tired of traveling. I feel like I’ve been away at least one week of every month for the past 6 months. Enough of that. I’m ready to stay home for three months straight.
6. I just had black bean salad for dinner. This is the 5th day in a row that it’s been my dinner. It’s good. But it’s not that good. This is just the sort of repetition that occurs when RW is away. Perhaps he’ll make me lasagna for breakfast tomorrow morning, just to change things up a bit.
7. Today I wore my orange corduroy pants, my teal cowboy boots, a blue t-shirt, a creme wrap cardigan, a bun on one side of my head, my humpback whale buckle and raspberry belt, a pair of pink and blue argyle socks pulled up over my pants so that they stuck out of the top of my boots a bit, a Host Necklace and a turquoise scarf. Whilst out and about, I think people felt nervous when they looked at me. I felt like one million two hundred and fifty seven thousand bucks.
8. I watched Fantastic Mr. Fox last night. Boy howdy. I loved it. Here’s the trailer in case you haven’t seen it and you’d like to be teased:
9. Are you laughing yet? I mean really! Look at those bandit masks!!! I thought I was going to pass out I was laughing so hard last night. Wes Anderson and I should have married. Just kidding (kind of). Also, I love Meryl Streep. There. I said it. I think she is one of my favorite actresses of all time.
10. Lastly, have you HEARD this woman??? She put the “x” in “classy chanteuse with sex appeal” — I’m just saying.
As you were.
xx

Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of my favorite movies!! I've seen it three times. Cracks me up every time. Visually stunning, too. And Meryl Streep is fabulous!! Always. I love to watch interviews with her, she's incredibly humble. And just, well, cute!
Enjoy your trip and then here's to settling in at home for a while!
Xo
Here's a toast to feeling and looking like one million two hundred and fifty seven thousand bucks!!!!!!
Amazing! xo
Wishing you a SPECIAL, FABULOUS, EXCITING trip!
And Mizz Gardot can sing me and Houdini lullabies to fall asleep at night any time!

If, perchance, your trip will see you through my lovely city of San Francisco I would be delighted to treat you to a steaming cup of something and possibly a nosh.
xoxo
Oh bless, the <3 between you and RW is enough to cross oceans and melt hearts with it's residue even over here. And lady, I have to say I adore your style. One million two hundred and fifty seven thousand bucks indeed!
"My One and Only Thrill" is one of my favorites! And Meryl Streep is in a class by herself.
Have a fantastic trip!! And now you can switch from black bean salad to elk for dinner 🙂 I love Melody Gardot, my mom turned me on to her!
Safe travels! We'll be in the same state for a few days…I'm flying out to San Diego on Saturday and will be there through Wednesday. I can't wait!
Good Morning Hatty-McHatter! Tell that man of yours I'm incredibly proud and excited for him and tell yourself that I'm adoring you this morning with little beams of light bouncing off my earlobes.
Wes kinda looks Vulpine…Not nearly as Foxy as one would think…
Love the image of you channeling Rainbow Bright…

Fantastic Mr. Fox is just such an amazing little movie, as is everything Mr. Anderson does. Just watched The Royal Tenenbaums with the husband last night and had forgotten how much I love it. The offbeat humor in all his films is just the greatest.
Enjoy your visit to our beautiful California. If you are visiting the southern part it has been VERY warm lately. Summer has finally arrived in November. Safe travels to you.
Melody Gardot is produced by Joni Mitchell's (ex?) husband Larry Klein. This can only mean more good things ahead!
I'm LOVING my necklace, by the way! My husband calls it my goddess necklace.
This- The description of your outfit makes me sad to be wearing only brown and white at my office today. And also this- oh Wes Anderson, I do love that man! 🙂
SugarLumps,
Where in cali will you beeeeee?
I must know these details so I can keep track of us all. I'm the secretary, you know.
Whatever, I'm so full of jealousy right now I couldn't get past the first paragraph.
Tell him I'm soooo, happy for him my eyes rolled inside my skull…. Errrr… I should've take my shot when I had it. (Shaking head, reliving my cow moment)
My favorite part of the story, "thank you for letting me do this."
Right with there with you on Meryl Streep! Rock on number 9!
Hey pretty girl!! I hope you have a safe journey & a wonderful time. I wasn't aware that there was a tool company in NC. If you wouldn't mind sharing their name, I'd like to give them a little business.
Pam
That outfit sounds most delightful!
