On Saturday, I was having one of those afternoons when everything I touched broke, burned or exploded (sometimes all at once). I trudged into the house where RW was working on the un-bathroom renovations, grabbed him by the shoulders and told him, “Please tell me it’s ok to go lay on the couch and read a book for the rest of the day. Just tell me those words and I will.“
He looked at me and said, “Jillian, go lay on the couch and read a book for the rest of the day.“
So I did.
And we were all together in our humble homestead.
I made a pizza for dinner and then we laid about in bed and read our books together when night came.
An afternoon (and evening) well squandered, I say.
I’ve been sleeping like a fitful little monster lately and really hit the wall on Friday, nearly stumbling out of my studio I was so suddenly and deeply fatigued. It’s been nice to lallygag about this weekend. We’re about to head out the door on a wee date! Ooh la la!
What ever shall I wear!???
RW is baking chocolate chip cookies for us to sneak into a movie theater. I’m contemplating making dill pickle popcorn to take as well, just a wee snatch of it…
Renovation update:
We now have a bathroom floor! Not a finished bathroom floor. But a floor. RW finished all the new plumbing, rebuilt all the floor joists and laid the sub-floor! Yay! We’re over half way finished with this renovation and I had a really lovely bath in the kitchen sink this morning…if bathing didn’t require being in a birthday suit I would surely film the fiasco for you. I’m sure I look like a starling in a tiny puddle.
Be well, chickadees!
xx
PS I’m on book five now.
PSS In exactly one week we will have our new little girl at Plume Gables! Yee haw!

I see your beautiful words and images, and I always have so much I feel the need to say, but right now all I can think is —- I have got to learn to make dill pickle popcorn. I will now obssess about this for the rest of the evening and google recipes. Enjoy your date. If you need me I'll be in my kitching driving my husband crazy making popcorn concoctions.
I like everything about this post madame!
And I've definitely said that to Ryan: "JUST TELL ME I DON'T NEED TO BE CLEANING RIGHT NOW. Tell me I can sit down!"
umm, dill pickle popcorn? any chance you'd share pretty please???
π
Hmm. There seems to be something unsettling in the universe's breath these past few days, as it seems the sweetness of sleep is being held at bay for so many souls.
I found myself dropping everything I picked up today, due to a serious lack of sleep. My body & brain would not align.
Ah, but 'tis a healing thing, to spend time with books & loved ones (to be told to stop, read a book, & rest)!
Like Susie, I never manage to say what I need to after reading a Plume posting.
I'm so glad to know you.
Ah, a girlfriend for Farley!
*hugs* Enjoy your date you two gorgeous chickadees.
Refreshing the mind, body and soul by reading and relaxing is definitely not squandering an afternoon..doing ironing all afternoon, now that is a different matter π
Sending you lots of love,
xoxoxoxoxo
M
oh i so hope you had a lovely date!
[you must tell us what movie you went to view….]
why is it that sometimes we *need* to be told it's OK to go lallygag and feed our spirits?
it was time well-spent….
congratulations on having a floor!
you are so fortunate to have a man who loves you so much and does such wonderful things for the two of you.
[kudos, robert….]
i can only *imagine* the bird bath.
that's how a true canadian pioneer woman would do it. [smile]

Ha! Isn't the Outlander Series incredible? I'm relishing the seventh book at present. They're just entirely infatuating.
Can't wait to meet the new little lady!

Can't wait to meet the new little lady!
p.s. can't wait to see the wee winged girly-pup….!
Oooo I agree with Susie! Please do share your dill pickle popcorn recipe! π
That sounds like a most wonderful way to squander a day. π
It is most definitely okay to go and lay on the couch and read a book the whole day on a day like that π
Oh and you seriously have quite the hubby in RW baking chocolate chip cookies to sneak in to the cinema. Lol, wish mine would do that!
Jillian, when will you write a book? Your words are magic π
Hope your nighs become more restful – but by all means, take the daylight hours to curl and relax!
very excited for the new addition to your family! what joy to have a new pup around!
merrily yours, L xx
p.s. dill pickle popcorn – future recipes for us, please? π
Oh I don't think that is squandered at all! And thank you so much for telling us how much you like Outlander…I was in need of a book exactly like that and I am very much enjoying it.
Aw!
Thank for all these lovely comments, chickadees!
I make dill pickle popcorn with a seasoning "salt" that Kernels makes. Unfortunately, I think Kernels paraphernalia is only available in the shopping malls of Canada because I looked for a link on line to the product and I cannot find one.
Here's what you do, find yourself a Canadian friend and as that individual to pop by the mall and pick up some dill pickle popcorn seasoning and then ship it to you. Stat. If you are in Canada, just swing by the mall and pick some up yourself!
The ketchup popcorn seasoning is excellent as well. Try it, if you dare!
AND, RW and I went to True Grit, of course, how could we not? The original is one of our favorite old Western movies. We quite enjoyed it (though I'm a highly visually sensitive lady and some of the violent portions were a tad graphic for me…I had to shut my eyes and slide my fox hat down over my face…especially during the finger removal…eek!). The cookies were delicious. My tea was lovely. My popcorn was tasty!
Hope your Sundays were swell.
And about that book, I'm actually just finishing chapter one for you today:)
No wonder you're pooped out- You produced a lot of beautiful work this week.
Hahaha! Your puddycat bath. It's good to laugh! xo

somehow i *knew* you and robert went to see "true grit"….
i loved it.
but, i'm a western kinda' girl….
M: You are a MUCH better interwebular researcher than I. x
Ms Bell: It was good!!!
Squandifery is good for the soul.
Sexy new banner, btw.
Squander just happens to be a favorite word of mine. Not that great at many things, but I really excel when it comes to squandering. My squandered Sunday included reading, walking the dogs, drinking tea and touching base with folks on the phone. It just doesn't get any better than that!
looks pretty wonderful.
xoxo
