Guess Where I Went

 Yee haw!
I spent eight hours answering emails, packaging and shipping jewelry and sorting some material orders today and when it was all said and done, I was feeling kinked.  I hopped on my trusty bicycle (not quite a dapple grey Percheron…but it will do) and pedaled over to the post office, then down to my favorite antique shop for some haggling and finagling and then finally, oh-sweet-mashed-potato-Idaho-heavens-above, (Whatttt???), I made it to the nursery.

I love this time of year!
I used all five senses while strolling around the greenhouses.  I ran my hands over plants, sniffed and nibbled on the herbs, took in the chroma-vibrancy laid out in all directions, I think I even heard the cellular hum of chloroplastic work.  It was magnificent.

CONFESSION:
I knew I’d get carried away with my plant purchases, as my eyes tend to be larger than my available garden space, which is why I rode my bicycle instead of taking one of the trucks.

I did walk away with one ceramic mushroom (long story), a pineapple mint and a chocolate mint.  Whew!  RW will be pleased by my self-control!

Our springtime is winding down here and I’m trying to squeeze every minute out of every day and every ounce of love out of my man before he takes off for the fire season.  Gosh.  I can’t believe it’s already here again.  At any rate, I’m going to treat this weekend like a weekend.  Tomorrow there is cattle branding over at the Gilbert Ranch, the installation of a new fume hood in my secondary studio space, a movie with the lady friends, some tasty meals (if I don’t burn them) and some quiet times with RW.

I hope you bite off more than you can chew, this weekend,
and I mean that in a good way!

Cheerio!
JSL

Post Scriptus:

I wore my swan, all day.
She’s so glad she’s mine.

Oh dear! I went to the ginormous garden center an hour away today and told myself I would leave with just one plant and one nice pot. I got a new fern, a baby tears plant, a pot for each….and a paphiopedilum orchid. AAAhhhh!!! I need a bicycle. I guess it could have been worse, I am like a kid in a candy store when I'm at the huge garden center. I want to give every little teensy bonsai, draping plant and orchid a home.

I love your 5 senses descriptive. It reminds me to use them more often, which can be an easy thing to forget in this hectic city world i live in.
And did you know? RW's upcoming fire season will mark a year of looking in on the Plumes life for Britt and I. Well, maybe not exactly a year, but we have been here since just before he came back last year and here we are again. The cycles we move through, the time rushing by at breakneck pace.
I wish you peace, love and patience.

Hey!! Did you get our package yet? Sorry if the coffee is a little dated. Should have sent you some that was roasted on the day of sending. But hey, coffee is coffee. Sometimes.

!! I LOVE the nursery. I don't even have garden space, but this week I was lucky in that family friends let me come out to their countryside house + plant strawberries in their garden. It was amazing. I hardly understand your restraint, though. If I had a garden in which to plant, I'd surely buy out the local nursery. Good on you for resisting 🙂

  14. The Noisy Plume: says

Fear thee not! There will come a day when I will buy MANY plants for my garden…but our final frost date here, every year, falls around June 7…or so. So there's no point in buying plants for the gardens until the last week of May.

Even this morning, as I type this, it's snowing outside!

  15. *sigh* thanks for sharing your nursery journey.
My heart is sad for a moment with the knowing that I will not be gardening this year. It is a brief sadness knowing also that I am moving this summer, to space that I will call my own to nurture and grow with over the years.
This year I will garden vicariously through you dear one.

J: My pleasure. I'll make a small garden, just for you, and I'll eat my veggies in your honor every night when the harvest is high. xx

Brycetard: YES! Just checked the PO Box on Saturday afternoon and there was COFFEEEEEE!!!!!!! Thank you!!!

  17. There is a beautiful nursery down the street. It belongs to a woman who gardened in her spare time, just for fun. When she retired, she expanded her garden a little each year. She loved the planting process and started planting more than she could care for, just to have plants to give away to her friends. Now her garden covers almost 3 acres, with ponds and a little creek and gazebos and tiny garden ornaments all throughout. You can pick anything up and buy it. It is a wonderful place. I love the story of it and could wander around in there for hours.
