The pointers, the weenie and I are just back from a morning cavort. I took this picture before Farley ran off, all the way down the river and beyond. Eventually, he came back to me with a deceased marmot in his mouth.
Um.
Good boy?
But baby man-dog, we can’t eat this for dinner…
In the future, can you just stick to birds?
He’s guilty of mammalian homicide.
It’s so hard to keep these dogs exercised. They go out of their minds with hunting drive and
cosmically-humming-giant-dwarf-exploding-star-energy
like you’ve never seen in a dog before. When people see me running with them, they stop moving and let me pass. We deconstruct the pillars of the earth and then raise them up again, before we tear them down once more. I have to behave bigger than I am to keep all these dogs in line.
I’m alpha around these parts.
Woof.
I’m feeling so light and fluffy today.
On Sunday, while at church, I realized I’m the girl I always dreamed of being. I sat down and my hair got caught between my back and the pew in an uncomfortable yonking fashion. I had to reach behind my neck with both hands and flip it in a blond cascade over the back of my seat. I always envied the girls who had hair long enough to drape over a church pew.
Now, I am that girl.
It’s so beautiful here!
I always say that.
But summer is strumming my heart strings
and there’s a thrum I leave behind on everything I touch.
My life print is glowing in a wash of amber and teal.
There’s a bit of unfurling clematis in everything I see.
I think I’m just a wild vine
shooting for cloud studded blue.
Someone, come braid my soul before
it tangles itself into knots in this breeze.
Yes.
love the long, blond tresses– so NOT practical for an outdoorsy girl and that's what makes it all the more special! stay wild, live free, right? keep snorting, pawing the ground, and tossing that mane as you enjoy this fantastic day and i shall do the same!
were it not for the special parts of me that i realize are exclusively mine, i would be drop-over-dead jealous of you: long hair. word weaving. silversmithing. running wild and free. but: i am me and today i'm OK with that. indeed and totally.
and, i love you. i think i'm one of your dog pack, gazing up at you, longingly, lovingly.
xx
[i wanna' sit behind you in church….]
beautifully said! Ha, I have a jack russell terrier and I believe that they are like taking one of your dogs and condensing it down to about 15 pounds and adding springs for legs. INSANITY!! Now, I have her trained well and she does all kinds of tricks that would be useful if I decided to run away to be a carnie, however she has her wild moments where she explodes and becomes a wild animal. On the long hair, I had the longest, thick, straight hair that looked like a full horse's tail when pulled back for a long time and now it's all chopped off to sort of a pixie cut. I find the extremes entertaining, we get tired of short and go really long and vice versa. 😉

Glow bright star-shine.
I have recently become that girl too. We went to see Wicked the other night and as I sat down in the theatre I realized my hair hung way down over the back of my seat – I hope it didn't tickle the legs of the lady sitting behind me!
Janet: Right! I'm always a giant tangle! Good thing I bought a hairbrush last year:) Buckle up buttercup!!! xx
Fox: But you're not a jealous woman and that's why we're friends. 🙂 I love the everythings of you. Don't change. Unless it makes you even better than you already are. x
Lana: Oh gosh. I can imagine. They're just as neurotic as GSPs. AHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Sometimes I really do think I might die due to dog. I have a best girlfriend who also has two GSPs and we're always talking about how sometimes when dealing with them we feel utterly unhinged….but those moments when they are calm of body and spirit, we feel healed in their presence (well….I've never conveyed that to her…but I suppose I just put that feeling into words here……there you go Suzy! That's how I feel!!!). Keep the crazy-dog faith, sister!!!
I love pixie cuts.
I truly do.
But man do I ever love long hair….flipping it around….biking and running with it down around my shoulders…..lovely.
Kelly: Will do!!! x
Jaime: I hope it did!!!!! HA HA!!!!!!!
Yes. You do.
as always, xxxoxox
Ah, your hair does seem to have gotten super long! And it's lovely.
I've not had time for a cut lately and it's mighty windy where I'm headed. I see lots of windblown hair and tangles in my future. 😉
I threaten to chop off all of Hannah's hair every time that I have to comb knots out of it.
When she reads this, she will refuse to ever ever ever cut her hair.
And if I sat behind you, I would braid your hair and tuck flowers into the folds.
Lovely, lovely!
Mammalian homicide, indeed!! Mum's dog, Zak, dispatches possums with keen regularity, and she's never quite sure what to do with them.
I always know it's time to trim my hair when it starts getting caught under my arms when I'm doing day-to-day stuff. (And yes, I do look stupid when that happens!) Hubby trimmed it for me last time…but then one inch turned into FIVE! (When I freaked out, his response was: "You do want it even, don't you??")
xxx
Um, "my life print is glowing"!!!!!!! This may be my all time favorite Plume quote…you certainly have a way with words my friends, this is one for that book of wise woman words I was talking about before!
can I say I am proud of you?
PS My dog killed a badger in my home town of Jasper. A Badger? If I hadn't buried it myself I would never have believed it really was one way up there! But ssshhh don't tell the wardens…
I have a similar childhood memory! I had short shoulder-length hair as a kid and was envious of the girls who, when they turned their head, part of their hair would stay over the front of their shoulder. When I started growing my hair out, I would toss my head each day to see if my hair would stay over my shoulder on it's own instead of swinging to the back. Now, my hair is long and flies all over the place… mission accomplished. 🙂
love this post! Makes me remember high school summers. I was a swimmer. tan & toned! long braid that was a mess because I swam, was on the go all day and slept in that same ol braid! Too tired (the good kind of tired) to brush it out at night! good times.
I'm so happy they are back where they belong;o)!!!
Kim: Time to get an Aveda paddle brush!!!
Michele: Please relay this comment to Hannah: HANNAH!!! DO NOT CUT OFF YOUR HAIR!!! GROW IT OUT UNTIL IT DRAGS ON THE GROUND BEHIND YOU!!!!!!!!! NEXT DECEMBER, ASK SANTA TO BRING YOU TWO THOUSAND BOTTLES OF CONDITIONER SO THAT YOU CAN LIVE SNAGGLE FREE!!!!! xx
Ash: HA HA!!! I think he and RW are cut from the same cloth. 🙂
Sierra: If you get any lovelier, I'm going to fly down there and force you to take me swimming with the sea turtles. x
Raven: 🙂 Thank you. And GOSH!!! A badger!!!!??????? That dog is tough as.
Heidi: HA HA!!! Boy can I relate. I was also jealous of the girls who had lovely long finger nails…like Holly in grade three…I've always been too active and wild to keep my nails long…
Conga: Sounds beautiful!
Sal: Me too. 🙂 xx
I know the perfect spot for swimming with turtles, they never fail to show their cute little faces…You're welcome for a Hawaiian vacay at the commune any day!
