I stayed in bed to watch the sunrise from the loft window we sleep beneath. It came up like thin gold and shone on me so bright and warm. I looked out and saw the river steaming and roiling, climbed down the ladder to the back door, shoved my feet in my boots and went walking in the crystals and newness of the day. Later, we went out for breakfast which is one of my favorite treats of all. Then we visited all the beautiful places. Before I knew it, the day was gone and night was settling and pooling black against the cliffs and we made pizza for dinner. Now we’re reading books, listening to music and sipping tea and wine. Winter was made for days like these.

It’s magical there! I love seeing this area you are in – so incredibly beautiful and so different from your other homes. Cattails! I haven’t seen them since my childhood! I love seeing the work of your hands in this new environment 🙂
It’s a pretty special little valley. I feel lucky to be here this winter. So does Robbie.
so crazy-beautiful.
so wintry and december-ish.
is your heart doing little flip-flops of joy….??
You KNOW I love this season most of all! X
O, wow! I fell in love with these photographs a soon as I saw them. They are wonderfully beautiful. I think I am going to come back and look at these often.
Please do! XX
I got completely lost in the beauty of the first photos, the ones with the snow details: pure beauty.
Thank you so much for sharing!

These are amazingly beautiful photos. Almost unbelievable. Gorgeous work!
Thank you, Simone!
The photos are incredible! It’s like seeing nature in a secret garden. If you squint while looking at #7 from the top you can see eyes. Do you see it?
What!!!? I’m going to go check that out!
I can’t believe you’re living in Winter Faerie Land!
Me neither! Pinch me!
I have been admiring your keen eye and perceptive writing for the last year and feel compelled to speak up and say THANK YOU! As a fellow wild woman your observations of the natural world are freeing and oh so inspiring. As an aspiring bird nerd I have to ask – clutch of black scoters?
Is a black scoter the same as a mud hen/coot? Hang on…I’m going to google that…ok. Yes! Black scoter AND a few mallards mixed in…but they were jumpy and got up pretty quick. It’s waterfowl season ’round here, you know?
Thank you for all the kind words you have to say about my work! I love having you here.
