New Girl

After searching for the better part of a year, we added a third to our fleet! This is Coulee. She’s double registered as a Kentucky Mountain Horse and a Racking Horse and we like her very much. She was on the other side of Idaho with a good family but not quite the right family for her — they had horses but were not…horsemen…if you know what I mean.

Before that, she was in Kentucky mostly starved to death by the breeders who raised her. We brought her home because she’s extremely fast, smooth, energetic, hardworking, surefooted, tough, and sweet. She has a couple behavior issues which are a result of being on pasture for years without any work to do and being ridden by nervous humans. The more we ride her, the more she settles in, and the less she employs those old behavior patterns of hers. She requires a confident rider to truly shine. She’s such an interesting little mare. Best of all, we took her elk hunting and she went very well, even while we were passing through falling burned timber in high winds, and she helped pack out two bulls for us. She’s a star.

Welcome home, Coulee!
