Fingers, Ears and Necks

There’s a beautiful thing to coming home
and settling back into routine.
There’s a underrated bliss found in reconnecting with tools, stashes of sterling and rock. My cabochon collection looked different while pulling open drawers, flipping through options and touching smooth domes with hungry fingertips. I have a couple thousand stones, sometimes certain rocks get overlooked. I came home and felt drawn to different colors and patterns. I sketched designs (and am still sketching designs) that hold portions of the sea. I couldn’t set enough ocean jasper. I’m still waving “see you soon” to the Pacific, like a strand of bull kelp, close to shore, pushed into movement by the tide.
I couldn’t recall the heat of my torch until I sparked it to life.
It’s been a bit like an awakening — a slow remembering of the habits of my body and mind while doing delicate work…and the work IS delicate in the way that all love crafts should be. There’s the slow chew of a saw blade through sheet metal. The painting on of flux. The swift swing of flame inside a bezel or atop layers and layers of sterling. These are delicate motions I go through for hours at a time. I don’t grow weary. My eyes are not dim. I’ll never grow tired of the movement of smithing. It delights me far to well to ever live without it.
This talk of silver and tools might seem far too romantic for some of you but it’s just the right amount of romantic for me. I love the work of my hands. I dream in silver.
For the necks:

From top to bottom:
Montana agate (with dendrites that resemble a swarm of honey bees)
purple chalcedony
ocean jasper
chocolate turquoise

For the ears:

Copper and sterling earrings.
Etched. Roll printed. Post styles and French Ear Wire styles.
And for the girl on a budget, I’ve whipped up a new Itsy Bitsy Necklace.

It’s perfect for layering or wearing bare, on it’s own. A pinch of grace in etched sterling silver. I wear mine now, it’s light on my neck, like a finger tip on a temple. You’ll wear them well. I know.
And for the fingers:

[ocean jasper]

[ocean jasper with a pinch of druzy]

As pretty on the back as they are on the front for every lady should keep fresh flowers on hand…

Made with love. Built to last. Crafted to hand down to the generations next.
In case you didn’t know,
I cherish your support.
Thanks for believing in me.
When I need it most.

I can’t wait to loose the joose.

I slowed things down a bit this morning. Coffee in hand, I surveyed my gardens and then focused on the grapes. We have six ancient grapevines at Plume Gables; a combination of white and concords. I’ve always wondered where the flavor of grape Popsicles came from until last August when I tasted a ripe concord grape off one of the vines. I nearly died. The flavor leaped out of the skin of the fruit and rolled over my tongue in waves. I remember feeling like my eyes were going to pop out of my head.

The time grows near.
Soon I’ll harvest the grapes and the second annual jelly and jam making soiree will commence.

Do you remember last year when I made batches upon batches of jellies and jams?

Oh I remember!
I’m STILL remembering, on toast with butter nearly every single morning.

There’s nothing I can think of, nothing so earthy, nothing so flawless in its skin, as a grape. Their suits look like velvet. Their fruit firm and vivacious. Growing in perfect little families. Hidden beneath leaves and tendrils.

I can’t wait to pick them, squish them, boil them, strain them, boil them again and then can them for a delicious confection I’ll enjoy for another entire year.

Don’t even get me started on the plum trees.
They look fantastically promising as well.
A shop update in an hour or so birdlings. Sit tight!

Thanks for your support today! I appreciate it very much. Sharlee is packing and shipping for me tomorrow night and all orders will go to the post office Friday morning before I leave town.
Thanks also for your fantastic convos, emails and comments today. Yeesh. You’re all so great…individually and as the great sweeping field you make when you stand together.
All my love,

The Plume and the Very Long Most Excellent Superbly Wonderful Day

Hullo
fluffy flooffertons and twitty tweetertons.
I’ve reached the end of my work day finally. It was a very good one. I’m rather tired and I’ve exasperated the kink in my neck so it will be ice packs and relaxation for the rest of the evening. However, I just had to say that the sky here is cloud upon cloud. My yard is green. There’s wine chilling in the fridge waiting to cool my fingertips. I’ve got a platter of new jewelry atop my office desk and a new day tomorrow to share with you. Life couldn’t be more grand. A toast to you and I at the end of a long day:
TO THE HONEST AND PURE WORK OF OUR HANDS.

I’d have popped some of these juicy fruits in the shop today but Tuesdays are hard on the-list -to-do when it comes to computer work since Sharlee is busy packing and shipping with the help of baby Mac. {i heart sharlee}
You can watch for slow but steady Etsy shop updates tomorrow!
Sweet dreams!

PS
I SHOULD WARN YOU…THE OWYHEE JASPER RING
WILL MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE THIS:

For My Buttercups:

AND ZEE WINNER EEZ:
Susie!
She said, “Deck me out in some plumage baby. Happy Etsiversary, and thank you for this generous giveaway.”

I had a faraway friend (thanks Michele) offer to help me with the contest drawing by using a random number generator. How clever! Oui? The number chosen was 47 and all duplicate comments were not counted! Congratulations Susie! Zip your shipping address to thenoisyplume@gmail.com and I’ll zip that little necklace in your direction (or Sharlee will tomorrow morning when she’s hard at work beneath my wings). Thanks to everyone who left a really lovely comment for me over the past few days! I wanted to bake you all cupcakes by the time Wednesday rolled around.
XOXOXOOXOXOX

And lastly, these, for my little buttercups:

Turquoise, turquoise, carnelian and sterling silver in a delicious smorgasbord of buckle delight.

Prehnite and sterling detail on this beauty which features side by side set flowers. The prehnite used is otherworldly.
A shop update is planned for tomorrow.
I’ll be in and out of the studio until then!
Happy Thursday which is so close to Friday which is essentially the weekend.
You’re my favorite buttercups.
Love,
Plumie

PS There’s a gorgeous storm brewing here. The wind is dirty and my flowers are bowing down beneath it’s vigor. I can’t tell if it’s going to rain but the plough winds feel cool and that’s a relief.
