Outpouring

I just spent 10 hours in my studio
making merry with my hammers and various machines and sundries. I’m so happy to say that today, I was on a maker’s high. It’s similar to a runner’s high wherein I reach a point of indisputable kinetic flow and I don’t notice my feet hitting the ground; it takes no effort to move, I glide — unknown to even myself — my mind is relaxed. I can flow for miles like that and not remember what was moving through my thoughts. I only notice the territory covered when I’ve reached my destination.
A maker’s high is similar in that:
I don’t notice the clash of my hammers on metal.
I don’t notice the time, my thirst or the sweat pouring off of me.
I don’t notice anything except the movement of the moment.
The purest outpouring of what’s inside me comes out strongest in moments like these. I wish I could experience such living more often. I’m sure you do too.
The outpouring:

amazonite, sterling silver & 14 karat gold
I’ll try to get these goodies in the Etsy shop sometime this weekend but I must be honest, I’m ready for a Saturday and a Sunday. I’ve been stalling on mowing the lawn and weeding my jardins so I might just be a Yard Geisha (not a real thing) and then surrender to the sun and wind of Idaho. It’s hot here. I want popsicles, a wide brimmed hat, a chair in the shade and that feeling of an endless summer wrapping itself around me, turning my hair and skin to gold.
Happy Friday to you all.
You’ve earned it.
With all my heart,
PLUME

The Sweetness of the Studio

Today marks the first day, in over a month, that I have been able to spend an entire day creating in my studio here at Plume Gables.  I didn’t forget a thing.  I thought I might after so much time away.  But when I strolled into my workspace this morning, my hammers were all there, laying about, hanging up on hooks, my spools of chain were glinting in the morning sun and Pinkerton had made a nest of my wire.
SIGH.
Home sweet home.  I spent the day mucking about with some projects I had started before the trip up North but
I also took a few hours to experiment with some ideas I sketched out while in Canada.  It feels so good to be home, in my home, with nothing to do but create.

Tomorrow I’ll be doing a scheduled shop update.  I’m going to try my darndest to begin listing at 4PM MST.  I have a date with Emily on the quad in the evening so I thought ending my work day with a little update might be a nice way to start the night. Today I completed:

Pink druzy & sterling silver.  ROCK CANDY.

All sterling, hand fabricated hollow form ring.

Chunky Kingman Arizona turquoise & sterling silver.

One more “Fly into Peace Ring” featuring an orange and black hand crafted button set in sterling and crowned with a bird in flight.
I do hope to see you there!  I’ll also be releasing some of my ring inventory in shades of blue and purple.  Scrumptious!
I’ve got the sun bending down low on the West bench at the moment, my stomach is rumbling terribly and I’m considering having a hot dog for dinner (I LOVE HOT DOGS) but a friend is just strolling in my front gate and I think she’ll probably convince me to whip up a garden salad instead.  HUMBUG.

Smooches to you lady birds and gentle beards:

HOLY CROW.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the shop update just now!
Whew!  I wish I could have recorded my heartbeat.  I felt like a hamster on an
exercise wheel!
To all the ladies who were not able to get a piece, hang on!  The perfect piece of jewelry will come your way eventually.  I say this all the time, but it’s true.
I see it happen all the time!
Love to you all
and sweet dreams!
XO

Birds Buttons & Fire

I love it when friends come to visit and they’re willing to spend time with me in my studio.  M and I spent yesterday enameling in ye olde workshop.  It was far too hot to be running a kiln but it was so much fun, we were able to ignore our sweat trickling down our backs.

It was hot as Hades in there.
So I dressed the part and wielded my little pitchfork with glee.

The results:

Mexican fire opal, sterling silver and enameled copper buttons (made by me in my kiln here at The Gables).
Photographed and in the Etsy shop later today!
Happy Monday to you all!
Let’s leave last week behind
and stroll into the new week
with bright flames atop our fingertips.
XO

Thanks to all the lovely ladies who came out to support me this evening
while I was updating the Etsy shop!  Your notes buoyed me up
and your presence was felt (no matter the distance).
Love to you all, always,

Peaches For Sale

You’ll find these ladies in the Etsy shop tomorrow, whenever I have a chance to sit down and list them:

From left to right:
laguna agate, green rutilated quartz, green chrysoprase
in Soul Garden format and random happy format.

…and this one?
Well, God made the stone and I set it in silver.
AMETHYST.  Simply.  Purely.
In its intended form.
Last gasp reaction at its very finest.
Exposed, jagged little crystals thrusting themselves upwards.  Yeesh.  Someone get me a chair.
Meant for a woman with a majestic heart and soul.

I always get a little bit swoonish when I’m around my birthstone.

Outrageous. Oui?

Good day to you kittens and tom cats!
I’m home from Canada.  I feel like I was away for an exorbitant amount of time.  But it was a very good exorbitant amount of time.  I feel well rested, fat and lazy.  I need more vacations.
Top five things about being home in Idaho:
1.  THE ROSE GARDEN!!!  Oh good gracious.  I’m gazing at it while I type this.  It’s so delicate and feminine.  I’m caught off guard when I go to clip bouquets for the house and I’m prickled half to death by their testy little thorns.
2.  RW.
3.  Having my little sister, Toby Beth, in my Idaho home for the first time ever.  What a delight!
4.  My neighborly friends dropping in for coffee and hellos.  How nice.
5.  Those green mountains and that lush garden of mine.  Perfect companions.
6.  OOPS.  I have one more thing for the list!  I arrived home to the perfect mountain of snail mail from some of you.  Good grief.  I’m working my way through it.  It’s like peach pie that pile of mail; I’m savouring it bit by bit.  Thank you! XO
I opened up the Etsy shop late last night and will be listing this and that as I slowly off-load my Missoula inventory as well as the things I’ll be crafting this week.
Heading for the shop today is this outrageous ring I made a couple of months ago:

It features dendritic opal of the snowiest persuasion as well as a hand cut snowshoe hare.  I had a dream about a rabbit on the tundra and built the dream when I awoke the next day.  Some dreams exist to be made — this is one of those.  You will find this little fellow in the shop today!
I hope you are all well!  I missed you so while I was away.
Hope your Canada Day and Independence Day were well spent in the company of friends and family!  What amazing countries we live in!
Smoochie smoochie,
Jillian Susan
PS  Thank you for your kind and wonderful comments on my photo blog posts from Saskatchewan.  I’m going through flatlander withdrawal today.  Le sigh.
