God’s Country

When I woke up this morning, my soul felt magnificent,
like four million fire opals blazing in moonlight.

At seven thousand feet above the sea,
my spirit is so full,
it’s aerial.

Lothlorien Branch

From the Naturally Occurring Objects Series.
Built of one solid, cast sterling silver branch-like object (that I originally sculpted) and 22 karat gold.

…like a small branch,
pulled loose by the wind,
sifted by the breeze
and clattered into the shock of
stillness on the forest floor.

I am still.
I am calm.
I was there.
I am now not.

Shoe Cupboard

There is a shoe cupboard built into the wall in the entry way of our 104 year old house.

One of my best friends came to visit two summers ago and when she saw it she said, “Well.  When you renovate the entry way, this will be the first thing to go…”  She found it appalling.  At the time, her comment stung my feelings because while the cupboard is a tad ugly and perhaps utilitarian on the outside, the inside walls are covered with shimmering white and gold vintage wallpaper — which I happen to love.  It makes such a resplendent backdrop for my high heeled shoes.

This cupboard also reminds me that even though something might be plain on the outside, there’s a very good chance it is beautiful on the inside.  My shoe cupboard really is a geode of sorts, bearing the glitter and sparkle of darling shoes and vintage wallpapers when you crack it open.

While I live in this little farm house, I’ll never update my shoe cupboard, it teaches me, time and time again, such a meaningful little lesson…

I had such a wonderful day.
I had to let you know.
After I mow the lawn and vacuum the house I am going back out to the studio because I am excited about working more on a project of mine (ultra uber top secret…you’ll see soon).
There were pickled scallions for snacking this afternoon
Lilacs placed in vases around the house and studio:
And vegetarian Thai summer rolls for dinner…but no photo of them, I ran ten miles this afternoon and was so hungry that I gobbled them down like a wild thing…snarl hissssssss.

Never mind.
I made one more.
For dessert.

Hey!  What’s going on?

Tra la la,
