IMG_0182Life has been very full here but I was able to set aside a little time to tinker in the studio these past couple of weeks.  You can find, in the shop today, more of the Adaptation series (this time bison and wolves) as well as some beautiful stones set as simply and cleanly as the windswept landscapes they depict.

Adaptation Cuff

[Adaptation Cuff:  Steelhead & Grizzly Bears :: sterling silver, prudent man agate and a dark green, lightly banded river stone from the South Fork of the Snake River of Idaho]

On occasion, I see finished work as portion of my life.  This cuff represents three days of my life.  That’s how long it took me to craft it from sketch to final satin finish.  It’s a beauty.  I’ll feel sad to let it go.  It’s such a perfect reflection of me, of the artist or craftswoman who made it.  My passions, my thoughts, my opinions, my standards and my perspectives on life and the wild world I live in here are written on the surface of this piece, stretched across the framework of metal like the skin of a drum.  I am wearing it on my left wrist at the moment; it sits with dignity, a glorious and rich weight, a dash of fierceness and a glimmering knowledge of the Holy.  I love it and want it for myself but there are days when I force myself to be pragmatic about things like this or else I’ll wind up like the terrible Smaug on a pile of handcrafted treasures…

With that said, this is what my hands recently made.  It was hard work.  Intricate work.  I’m pleased with the results.

No, I love the results.

A big old fashioned preview!

This is a portion of the new pieces that will be part of my next shop update which WAS planned for the morning of Friday May 9th, however, I have been in a boxing match with a patchy/lazy internet connection today (yes, that still happens in some places…) and now I am tired, mildly irate and only partially prepared for tomorrow.  Instead of staying up all night long working I am choosing to enjoy the evening with Robert and tomorrow I will continue to chip away at photography work and shop listing drafts.  I AM SO SORRY to reschedule this update, for a second time.  Forgive me.

With that said, my intentions are to update the shop on Monday morning, May 12, at 10AM MST.  Wild horses couldn’t drag me from the notion.

See you there, little tweeters.

:::Post Scriptus:::

I wanted to add that one of my things is putting stuff inside of other stuff — with regards to designs in metal.  I’ve had the Adaptation Series sketched out in an older sketchbook and riding the waves of my mind for a couple of years now.  It was nice to see a few of these pieces come to fruition — grizzlies in the bellies of steelhead.  Who would have thought!?!  There’s more coming in this realm and it feels great to tell you so.

Leafaluia!

Wowee!  My local Art Walk last Friday was a blast — I met some lovely folks and all our friends came out to show support which always means the world to me.

I’m working quite diligently on getting a shop update prepared and launched on Friday of this week!  Stay tuned.

IMG_6491Hello, friends, and happy Monday to you!  I combed through the archives this morning to round up a handful of strays — images that never made it to the blog, that is!  We had a lovely dumping of snow here yesterday and I’m headed out with the dogs to skijor for most of the day.  It’s my main priority today and it’s about time.  I have a serious case of cabin fever even though I’ve been out on the mountain every single night for the past 31 days!  Let me tell you first hand, March came in like a lion and went out like a lion.  I’ve loved all the roaring!

I’ll be downshifting in the studio over the next few days as I have run my metal supply down to the nubs.  I plan to place an enormous re-supply order this week (that they will probably have to deliver by armored truck…it’s going to be so darn big…) and take a few days off to run about the forests and rivers like a little scoundrel.  I hope you are all well!  This week is looking bright.  Get after it!
